Retrieving the Honda from Charleston.

Today we rented a car and drove back to Charleston to retrieve our car since we will be in Beaufort for a bit. Once we returned to Beaufort, I took a short stroll around the Cypress wetlands. It was pretty empty at the time – both birds and humans were in short supply. I did spy one lone alligator resting among the green swampy water.

Tonight we pulled out the inflatable dinghy to make sure it works. Well, it didn’t. The electric motor didn’t start at all so we are on to plan B. This involves buying a new dinghy and dinghy davits. The inflatable is just not practical in the Bahamas.

From Church Creek to Beaufort SC

We headed out in the am to try to make the bridge opening prior to the closing at 3:30. However the current was pretty strong so we didn’t make it until it opened back up at 7:00.

Because we got there so late we just docked right in front of the gas dock. We had to fill up in the morning so it worked out well.

Tomorrow we will go for a short road trip back to Charleston.

New boat – new baby – new plan!

We bought a new boat – an Island Packet 380! We had a slight delay in picking her up. It seems baby Arthur wanted to come a little late – 9/19/26 to be exact – so I stayed with the Boulder crowd for a few days 🙂

Our new Island Packet 380

After Boulder, we met in Richmond and drove to Charleston to start our 2026 Bahama voyage. We left on 9/28 and immediately hit a fast moving current after leaving Safe Harbor Marina.

After that I took the helm and we landed at Church Creek for the night. Our new IP will take some getting used to after cruising with Rita for three years!

Tomorrow onto Beaufort!
